Long time…

Man, have I been lax. I started a post way back on 11/18 and shelved it. Where it died. It was 74 that lovely day. I can’t say the same for today. It’s blustery and snowing. And we are expecting anywhere from 6″ to a foot of snow. I’m woefully unprepared for this. I’m constantly freezing as it is, but now…it’s going to be really ugly. At least I found my finger-less mitts! I had stowed them away and of course had no idea where I stowed them. Luckily I was going through my yarn bin and found them! Along with about 3 projects I need to complete.

The one baby blanket is coming along slowly, but it’s nice. I want to shove making some finger-less mitts into the mix. But I really need to pick up the pace! Luckily my thumb is only slightly dry and has not cracked open. I found some stuff at Lehmans in Kidron, OH and let me tell you, it’s a life saver, though I still have dry hands. I think it’s due to being borderline diabetic for years, and the fact that I am 50+. It’s amazing that for years I never needed to put any moisturizer on my legs or arms. Now I get out of the shower and have to practically bathe in the stuff. My hands need extra attention since I work with paper all day long, and knit at night. No Cracks Night time formula is doing the trick. Thank you! I also use a beeswax cream from a local place called York Meadow Farms. The original smells like lemon, and I have the lavender too. I’ve met the owner, and she’s lovely! I also love that I can support a local business.

So, that’s about all I have right now..my incredibly boring life! Actually I have been busy, but right now I just want to get this out there and let the three people who read this that I am alive and plan to get more in depth soon!

tree trimming fun!

All Hallows’ Eve and beyond

Good times were had at work last Monday. Halloween is probably my favorite holiday as an adult. Don’t get me wrong, I still love Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving but Halloween lets us pretend for a day to be (or dress) as someone else. This year I chose to be a Medieval Maiden that morphed into the Blue Fairy. The whole workplace was pretty into it all! It always makes a fast and fun day when that occurs.

Now, here we are a week and then some later, and just about all retail stores have these insane Christmas displays. Look, I love Christmas…see above…but this is insanity. There’s a lovely holiday this month, called Thanksgiving. At least for those of us in the USA. And it’s great. We eat turkey, stuffing (dressing in the US South) and green bean casserole. Well, a lot of people eat that green bean casserole but my family isn’t one. We just like our green beans southern style. That means with bacon for ya’ll not familiar. There’s cranberry relish/sauce and of course, Pumpkin Pie. Then after completely stuffing our gobs, we pretend to watch football, and drift off in a carb coma. Though this year I’ve been researching healthy options. I worked hard to lose the weight and I am hoping the next two month won’t completely derail me. *crossing fingers*

This year my house is the host. Mom and I will cook, and get the table all ready. I’m looking forward to it. I have been collecting Fiesta dinner ware since I was a much younger woman and cannot wait to set a beautiful table. I plan on having a dry run, table wise, soon. I’m wondering where my gravy boat is, and what serving pieces to use. I’m pretty excited. As soon as I’ve found all that I want to use, I’ll post up some snaps on my Instagram. Feel free to check it out. Plenty of cat, flower and random snaps. @amandaish1125 is how to find me there.

Harry Potter & Tervis

It’s always good when you find something that you love, and then that something has designs in another product.

I am adult, and I love Harry Potter. I read the books, and saw the movies. In fact, if they’re on TV, chances are great that I am watching it. Especially if it’s The Half Blood Prince, my personal favorite. When Tervis sent me an email to announce they had Harry Potter themed travel mugs, I immediately wanted to order one….or maybe two! I decided, monetarily speaking, that would not be wise, so I waited. I knew that Bed, Bath & Beyond would get them in stock, and they didn’t fail me. So, retail minus the coupon was more budget friendly. I chose the Marauder’s Map. My boss, who is a huge fan of Tervis, and Harry Potter got the Glasses and Scar one. So, total photo-op.

CJ was telling me about the history of Tervis. She recently did a paper on it for her degree. I recommend looking into them, as they are still a family company, going into its third generation. The warranty is stellar and so is the product. I’m not being paid a cent to say what great stuff they have. I just think they do, and I think that any company that does it right should be celebrated.

Another day….

And it most assuredly is heading to Friday. It’s always a good day when it’s Friday. The promise of a weekend, where you get nothing done that you expected to!  I’ve got a little soirée to go to this Saturday evening and I’m looking forward to it. I really love Halloween. So, I am excited that I have a super cute costume this year, and can’t wait to see it all together. I’ve got some finishing on two components and I must find some boots. Black booties to be exact.

This is the NON Pinterest Fail I am working on. Now, it could have been, since the original post called for 10 yards of tulle. That woman must have been a size 0. I am NOT. I’m proud that I am almost to single digits, so it was disconcerting that I required quite a bit more fabric. Way to go to tear down a former fat girl! Though it’s coming out beautifully. It was a test to get Gigi Louise away from said tulle. She was losing her kitty mind last night.

So to get her away from that, I packed it up and placed it safely in the spare bedroom. She was promptly put out and decided that the only thing to do was attempt to remove all photos hanging on the walls of my room. At midnight, 1 AM, 3 AM and then moved to moms room at 4 and 5. We were delighted.

How did I get here?

I’ve been pondering what has been going on in my tiny little world lately. There have been an inordinate amount of pregnancies. Co-workers a-plenty are having children. Friends have been having children. HA!!  I have no plans to have children. Yet here I am making baby blankets for the foreseeable future. The woman who chose to have her tubes tied at the age of 39. Who rarely ever regrets that decision. Life sure is funny, isn’t it?

Those of you who know me personally, and well, know that I am hardly maternal. Never have been. I love small fuzzy things. Babies are not among my definition of “small fuzzy things”.  Hamsters? Yes. Cats, OH yes! Babies… no. They’re lovely for others, but not me. The fact that I am toiling away at several baby blankets…well that’s silly. I do love knitting though. And this enables my love of learning new patterns and shopping for appropriate yarns. I have a love/hate relationship with shopping. I love a great bargain. I hate bad service. I love the hunt, yet am easily frustrated by it at times. I guess you must have a balance.

I’m 2/3 of the way done, possibly more, with the first one. I would love to show y’all, but it’s a surprise for someone, and if she clicked on this blog, the surprise would be spoiled! It’s lovely, and I am pleased with it.

In other news…my heart broke a little when HLC announced that they were discontinuing a beloved color in the Fiesta line of dishes. Farewell Paprika. I barely got to know you before you were gone! You look beautiful with Turquoise, Sage and Slate. I am just short of despondent.

First blog post

Hi there…so many emotions! I am keeping this a light and happy, hey I’m going to blog now post!

I’ll be talking about my little corner of the world. My knitting, my crazy work life/home life. My cooking, Fiesta, and of course, my cat. Just about anything is fair game, though I will not delve into politics.Let’s just say, I have opinions, but honestly, this year, I think we can all say we are irritated by our seeming  lack of choices.
